4 Reasons to Replace or Add New Faucets Now

Admin • Jan 17, 2019

Before guests arrive for the holidays is a great time to restore your sink faucets to new condition or add new faucets. You increase both the function and appearance of your sinks when you have new faucets installed. Here are four reasons to choose new faucets now.

1. The Faucet Is Corroded

Expect your faucet to last around 10 years or longer with routine maintenance. If your faucet is near the end of its useful life and is beginning to corrode, replace it with a new faucet. You avoid expensive water leaks and home damage.

Older metal faucets corrode from the chemical reactions with particulate matter in water. Corroded pipes often get clogged with mineral buildup. Serious corrosion or deposits can restrict or stop your water supply. Over time, the corroded parts will leak. Protective coatings over fixtures will also crack and peel.

Under the sink, an older faucet's tailpiece can corrode and fail to create a tight connection. A tailpiece leak will soak and ruin cabinets, flooring, and walls.

Schedule removal of faucets that are aged past their primes. Your plumber will replace your faucet with a shiny, new version that connects securely to your plumbing lines and accessories.

2. The Faucet Threads Are Worn

Do you have to play with your faucet handles to stop a drip? Do you need to tighten the faucet handles extra hard to stop all of the water flow? Is the spout aerator hard to replace because it won't screw into the faucet spout easily?

These are all signs of worn threads on faucet parts. Other signs of worn plumbing threads include:

  • Squeaky faucet handles
  • Loose washers, O-rings, and fittings
  • Leaks at spout seat or handle bases
  • Spray instead of flow from faucet

Metal threads are worn by pitting and mineral deposits. Plastic threads for cartridges and aerators won't fit in the deformed threads of spouts or faucet handles, so they become clogged or won't fully screw in place.

Exchange your worn faucet with a silent, efficient faucet that's easy to maintain. The brand-new threads create watertight seals for accessories and fittings.

3. The Faucet Is Boring

If you've browsed new faucets lately, you know there are amazing, new versions of fixtures on the market. Whether you want a hands-free faucet or an artistically sculpted spout, you can turn your kitchen or bathroom sink into a showpiece of performance and looks.

Choose from contemporary or retro looks to add style to your bathroom. Old-school farmhouse faucets and abstract geometrical faucets are available to suit any style of cabinetry and décor.

Modern faucets are also more waterwise. Advanced aerators deliver good water flow while reducing water use. You don't need to replace rubber washers with most modern faucets like you must with older compressionstyle faucets. New faucets use cartridges to control water flow.

4. The Sink Setup Needs Upgrading

A plumber helps with all stages of your renovations. Schedule a professional faucet installation when you're moving your sinks and/or cabinets in the kitchen for the best results. Stylish wall-mounted sinks including trough-style basins don't require cabinets but will require expert plumbing work to install.

Do you make a lot of soup, pasta, or other water-based dishes? How about adding a convenient pot-filling spout that maneuvers over a counter or stovetop? Add the small sink and faucet you've always wanted in your lounge area, kitchen prep space, or craft studio.

If you need a pet tub, mop sink, or laundry sink in your mudroom, your plumber can add tall spouts and efficient sprayers to enhance the utility of the fixtures. Wash the dog, rinse out dirty mops, and treat tough stains without bringing the mess or smell into the house. Whatever you faucet dreams, your plumber has a solution to make them real.
